South Liverpool Homes (SLH) has launched a new campaign to tackle misinformation and confusion about how its homes are allocated, aiming to address myths and build stronger, fairer communities across south Liverpool.

The campaign, “Let’s Talk Facts – Who Gets Our Homes?”, comes after a survey of more than 500 customers revealed that nearly eight in ten people don’t fully understand how the organisation decides who gets a home.

Many respondents believed that factors such as immigration status or ethnicity influenced decisions and feel that local people don’t have an equal opportunity to live in new homes that they build.

The reality is very different. SLH follow a strict, transparent process based on need, not background. In 2024, over 70% of available homes went to people from the immediate area which includes the L24, L19 and L25 postcodes.

The campaign is designed to provide clear, honest answers about who gets to live in their homes through myth-busting facts and frequently asked questions (FAQs). It comes as the Liverpool City Region, and the rest of UK, faces a housing crisis, with demand for affordable homes at an all-time high. SLH are playing their part by pledging to build 780 new homes across south Liverpool by 2032, helping to meet local need and support the growth of vibrant, inclusive and sustainable neighbourhoods.

Anna Bishop, Chief Executive Officer at SLH, said:

“We know that when people feel informed and included, our neighbourhoods become stronger and more welcoming. That’s why we’re committed to tackling myths and making sure everyone understands that our homes go to those who need them most, through a fair and transparent process. By listening to our customers and acting on their feedback, we’re helping to build communities where everyone feels they belong.”

“We know there are lots of questions and sometimes worries when new people move in or neighbourhoods change, but we believe everyone should feel welcome and be treated fairly. That’s what makes our communities strong.”

SLH is holding events across Speke and Garston, inviting customers to ask questions and learn more about how homes are allocated.
