Kate Henderson, Chief Executive of the National Housing Federation, visited Halton recently to see major development, regeneration and retrofit projects across the borough.

The visit brought together senior leaders from Halton Housing, Plus Dane, Magenta Living, Onward and Your Housing Group to discuss shared priorities, such as funding for net‑zero and retrofit programmes and the challenges facing local communities in Liverpool City Region.

Following the roundtable discussion, Kate visited key schemes that demonstrated the scale of ongoing investment across our region, including:

  • Runcorn Old Town (Halton Housing): A major regeneration of the Waterfront and Town Centre, supporting future housing and community development.
  • Palacefields (Riverside): A long-term regeneration plan with improved public spaces, better connectivity and proposals for new high‑quality homes.
  • Murdishaw (Onward): A significant retrofit programme funded through the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, upgrading 132 homes and supporting community spaces such as the Tea Tree Café.

Sam Scott, CEO of Halton Housing, said:

“Housing providers are facing real pressures, but we are delivering positive impacts – from tackling damp and mould to investing in regeneration and retrofit at scale. Today reinforced how essential the right national frameworks are for the work we do on the ground.”

The tour highlighted the scale of investment being made by housing providers across LCR and the tangible improvements being delivered for residents in those areas.
