Strong partnerships are essential to tackling housing need and delivering the homes our communities need.
During 2025/26, the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority awarded £3.2 million of Brownfield Land Funding (BLF) to housing associations across Liverpool City Region, supporting the delivery of 172 new affordable homes. These schemes are helping bring brownfield land back into productive use while creating much-needed housing for local people.
Brownfield Land Funding plays a vital role in unlocking sites that might otherwise remain undeveloped. Across Liverpool City Region, many former industrial and previously developed sites require significant preparation and investment before homes can be built. The Combined Authority’s funding helps bridge that gap, making developments viable and allowing housing providers to bring forward new affordable homes.
Since 2020, the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority has overseen a £60 million Brownfield Land Fund programme designed to unlock previously developed land for new housing, supporting the delivery of thousands of homes across the region. The fund works with local authorities, housing associations and developers to transform underused sites into thriving communities.
For housing associations, access to this funding helps accelerate housing delivery while supporting wider regeneration objectives. Alongside providing affordable homes, brownfield developments can revitalise neglected sites, improve neighbourhoods and create sustainable communities close to employment, transport and local services.
